Is Lacrosse on it's way to the Olympics?
Recently the Olympic Committee has lowered the number of countries participating in a new Olympic sport from 75 to 40. Does this mean that lacrosse could be part of the 2020 Olympics as a demo sport?
That's 10 years away, can it be done by then? According to the Federation of International lacrosse (FIL) European countries lead the world in the growth of Lacrosse. Seven counties from Europe have joined the FIL since 2008.
The following countries joined the FIL in 2008;
- Poland
- Norway
- Switzerland
- Portugal
- France
- Bulgaria
Plus Costa Rica in Central America in 2008 and Mexico in 2009. Belgium was added in 2010 which makes a total of 22 in Europe now. The FIL development committee is currently working with 10 other countries around the world. Lacrosse has grown from it's original 4 countries to it's current membership of 36 countries since 1990.
Only 4 countries to go!
